Public Audience at Deputy Chamber

28 December 2014

Representatives from SENAI’s Education Secretariat of São Paulo and WorldSkills International participated in a Public Audience with the Deputy Chamber on 26 November in Brasília. During this visit, they presented WorldSkills International and all the details about WorldSkills São Paulo 2015.

Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills, highlighted the impact that the 43rd WorldSkills Competition can bring to Brazil, “I promise you that if parents, teachers and authorities visit WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, they can be persuaded about the importance of professional education for their children’s future”.

The history of the past WorldSkills Competitor, Rafael Wenderson, illustrated the potential of the Competition. The welder obtained a gold medal at WorldSkills Américas Bogota 2014, hosted in Colombia, and won the silver medal in the last WorldSkills Competition held in Leipzig, Germany, in July 2013. “I received many job proposals, including some from multinational companies. I refused because I want to continue at SENAI, where I had all the opportunities of life. After I passed through WorldSkills, I became a distinguished professional”, affirmed Rafael.

Federal Deputies spoke about the importance of the event – many of them were at the last edition of WorldSkills Competition in 2013, in Leipzig - and realize how Brazil could use the Competition as a platform to deepen and consolidate the professional education system in Brazil.

FEDERAL SENATE

At the Federal Senate, Bartley participated in a Public Audience about the Competition´s promotion, invited by the Senator Cyro Miranda, president of the Education, Culture and Sport Commission.

The General Director of SENAI, Rafael Lucchesi, the CEO of WorldSkills, David Hoey, the Advisor Innovation Secretariat of Vocational and Technological Education of the Ministry of Education (SETEC / MEC), Luciano Toledo, the Director of the Division of Technical Guidance of Municipal Education Secretariat, Fátima Aparecida, and the gold medalist in Welding and the best Brazilian Competitor at WorldSkills Americas Bogotá 2014, Rafael Wenderson also joined the meeting.

Representing São Paulo´s City Department of Education, Fátima highlighted the partnership with WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 through the Program One School One Country, which involved more than 50 public schools. The schools will host the country delegations, coming from the 72 Member countries/regions of WorldSkills International, in an exchange of skills, information and culture.
