10 April 2015
WorldSkills Competition, the greatest vocational education and skills excellence competition of the world, will be held for the first time in Brazil, between 11-16 August this year, at the Anhembi Park, in São Paulo. Registrations for those who want to contribute to the event, through the Volunteer Programme, began today. Over 1,200 registered Competitors from more than 60 countries and regions are expected to participate. The Competition Organizer expects 800 volunteers to confirm participation. Applicants must be at least 16 years old, have available time for the work and live in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
Volunteers will receive a transport fare card, on-site food, a uniform and a participation certificate. Daily work shifts may be four, six or eight hours long from 8-16 August 2015, at the event facility. One of the great highlights related to the volunteer work, will be the Attachés responsible for welcoming and guiding Delegations from other countries and regions, requiring previous experience with the delegation´s culture, helping them adapt to the Brazilian reality during the visit.
Other tasks include activities with the Competitors and general visitors as well as helping with the event´s communication. Main activities include welcoming and guiding Delegations, guiding primary education and high school students during visits, clarifying questions about the skills in the Competition, conducting the flow of people in the restaurant and helping with general information and guidance for all participants.
WorldSkills has very positive prospects for the Volunteer Programme because according to a survey conducted in 2011 by IBOPE, one out of every four Brazilians (25%) over 16 years old (approximately 35 million people) have already performed volunteer work or are currently volunteers. Among respondents, 87% declared that they are completely motivated to continue to engage in this type of activity.
Rregister before 15 May 2015. A list with names of the selected volunteers shall be published by June, before the first training sessions begin.
