How did you get interested in your skill?
My mother was a cosmetologist, so I loved to watch her cut hair as a little girL Then I decided to pursue the career, and fell in love the facials aspect of the cosmetology licence.
Where did you do your training for your skill?
At home, on friends, and under helpful supervision of my teachers at my school (Manatee Technical Institute).
How did you first find out about your Member organization and its programs?
Through school and research.
Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
My mom inspired me to begin schooling for my license, and after learning from and being around my wonderful teachers, I realized how much I truly wanted this to be my career.
What is your experience in participating with your Member organization?
The experience I have the most of is competing in Skills.
Describe your most memorable moment so far with WorldSkills?
The most memorable moment would have to be getting the call from Dave W. with the incredible news of being chosen to represent the United States in Brazil! The excitement I felt cannot be put into words.
Describe what your experience has been since your involvement with World Skills Very comforting and helpful. I trust that I can be completely prepared and have any questions I have answered in a matter of hours.
Did participating in the skills competitions and training for WorldSkills help you progress in your skill? Please describe.
It definitely has given me a lot of confidence knowing that the work that I do has been recognized and rewarded by allowing me to progress throughout all of these competitions. l have learned more than I ever thought I could about myself, my discipline, and my talent.
What do you currently do? Where do you work?
Right now I am serving in a restaurant I practically grew up in, and I plan on moving to Orlando after WorldSkills to pursue a career in skin and hair.
What are your future career aspirations?
My ideal future career is to work in a salon in the mornings and maybe even have my own shop, and in the afternoons I wish to be an athletic trainer for a high school.
