Country: United Kingdom

How did you get interested in your skill?
I was interested in engineering from an early age because I like to know how things work and operate.

Where did you do your training for your skill?
I trained at Bradford College and at my employer Carnaud Metalbox Engineering.

How did you first find out about your Member organization and its programs?
My employer Carnaud Metalbox Engineering encouraged me to enter the WorldSkills UK Skills Competitions and I was lucky enough to get picked to represent the company alongside two other colleagues.

Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
My family encouraged me to pursue my career in engineering as my Grandad was an electrical engineer and my Dad was a mechanical engineer.

What is your experience in participating with your Member organization?
After taking part in the WorldSkills UK Skills Competitions, I was lucky enough to secure a place in Squad UK and now a place in Team UK for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. Since I have been with WorldSkills UK I have completed a number of training sessions, supported by employer and Training Manager Wynn Rowlands.

Describe your most memorable moment so far with WorldSkills?
For me it was getting told that the three of us from Carnaud Metalbox Engineering had made it into Team UK to compete in the Manufacturing Team Challenge competition at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. It is such a great achievement.

Describe what your experience has been since your involvement with WorldSkills
Since I have been with WorldSkills UK I have completed a number of training sessions, supported by employer and Training Manager Wynn Rowlands.

Did participating in the skills competitions and training for WorldSkills help you progress in your skill? Please describe.
Yes most definitely! Preparing for WorldSkills has helped me learn more about my skill and has also opened up more opportunities at work. Carnaud Metalbox Engineering has been very supportive of my involvement with WorldSKills and as a result I have got to know people in different departments at the company which has been great for my learning.

What do you currently do? Where do you work?
I work at Carnaud Metalbox Engineering.

What are your future career aspirations?
I would like to pursue my training in PLC programming and get more involved in the development side of the company as I feel that being part of a team creating a new product is hugely exciting.
