Kevin Glaser
- Age: 21 years
Competitor in Skill: Information Network Cabling
Country: Germany
How did you get Interested In your skill?
In my vocational training as an IT-system electronics technician I have co llected about a year of fie ld service experiences. In this part of education I had to splice lots of cable (copper-cored cable and fibre optic cable), build closures and/ or repair them and of cause we had to crimp cable to patch them. These duties have given me a lot of pleasure and are basically exactly the tasks which will expect me in skill 2 - Information Network Cabling.
Where did you do your training for your skill?
I trained at the education centre 'Telekom Ausbi ldung' in Erfurt where Igot my own room
in which I had all my tools and materials together .
How did you first find out about your Member organization and Its programs?
In our education centre is a poster from the last competitor (WorldSkills Leipzig 20 13), Anton Hrabia, who is my expert now. After I have seen this I spoke to my training instructor about WorldSkills and WSG (WorldSkills Germany) . I also got some information about WorldSkills in our Intranet.
Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
My training instructor in our education centre and my teacher in vocational school
influenced me a lot to pursue this skill and participate in WorldSkills Sao Paulo 201 5 as competitor.
5. What is your experience in participating with your Member organization?
We've been only two days together in Frankfurt as first meeting so far.In these two days I got many impressions from WorldS kills itself and my member organization WorldSkills Germany. The meeting itself was very informatively and we had lots of fun together.
Describe your most memorable moment so far with WorldSkills?
In my opinion it was the moment while our.first meeting as Team-Germany and our member organization or especially our team leader presented us a certificate which shows that we are part of WorldSkills Sao Paulo. This was a really impressive moment for me and I hope Iwill always remember this feeling I had.
Describe what your experience has been since your Involvement with WorldSkills
Since my involvement I learnt a lot of new things about my skill. The training so far helped me a lot to understand my vocat ion even more and how important it is for our modern society. I learnt more about our infrastructure and international standards. The next great experience Iwill have is a competition in Prague. In this competition I wi ll participate as expert and caretaker fo r our competitors from German Telekom training. I hope Iwill get some experience in international competitions and improve my English to take some pressure off me when I'm in Brazil.
Did participating In the skills competitions and training for WorldSkllls help you progr ss In your skill? Please describe.
The training so far helped me a lot in progress in my skill. At first I learnt a lot about international standards, because our German standards are partly different (f.e. mediums which are used and which form of coding [colours] they have). I also have seen the difference between quality and quantity in a competition. In our job as field service
technician we mostly assign quality more value than quantity but in competitions we have
to show both. We have to be fast and accurate. The training with the Test Project from WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 helps me a lot, every week of training I am concentrated on one module to get more accuracy while working.
What do you currently do? Where do you work?
When I'm not training for Wor ldSkills, I work in German Telekom Technology- production
.technical infrastructure in office work, as planner . So I'm planning the future network infrastructure in Germany with my instructor. It's like the theoretical part behind the field service duties. These help me to understand how our network works in Germany.
What are your future career aspirations?
In my future career I want to complete my vocational training and want to work for the acquisition in my company. And maybe I'm going to study afterwards information and communication technic. But these are only theories about what I will do in future. Maybe these plans will be changed when some time passes.
