Puk Søndergård Mortensen

Competitor in Skill: Restaurant Service
Country: Denmark

How did you get interested in your skill?
I have been working in restaurant service since my very first job, so doing the education felt natural to me. I caught interest in competition by watching one at my school. This was when I suddenly really wanted to learn more and excel in my skill.

Where did you do your training for your skill?
I have trained at Hotel Legoland and now at Munkebjerg Hotel, but also at school.

Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
I am very ambitious, and when I am into something I really want to be the best. So I believe it is my own drive that has made me work to better my skills. And then of course the back-up from my family and my boyfriend.

Describe your most memorable moment so far with WorldSkills?
The moment where I was choosen to be the danish competitor for the restaurant service.

Describe what your experience has been since your involvement with WorldSkills
It has all been very exciting and I have learnt a lot. I have also come to know a lot of new people and expanded my network.

Did participating in the skills competitions and training for WorldSkills help you progress in your skill? Please describe.
Yes of course, every time I train I am getting better and better at my skill.

What do you currently do? Where do you work?
I work at gourmet restaurant Tree Top at Munkebjerg Hotel as a trained waiter.

What are your future career aspirations?
I would like to continue working as a trained waiter. I would like to pass on my knowledge to new students, and maybe I would like to be restaurant manager sometime?
